More About Kathryn Wristen

Hello! I’m Kathryn, and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor who believes therapy should feel like a safe place to be yourself, feel understood, and learn skills that make life a little more manageable. I have a special passion for working with children, teens, and young adults, and I understand that reaching out for support can be a big step—for both you and your child.

As a former collegiate athlete, I also understand the unique pressures that can come with competition and high expectations. I know firsthand what it can feel like to balance academics, athletics, relationships, and other competing priorities while managing performance-related stress. I also understand how injuries, setbacks, and changes in plans can affect confidence and emotional well-being. These experiences give me a personal appreciation for the challenges young athletes and high-achieving young people may face, and I enjoy helping them develop healthy ways to manage pressure while staying connected to what matters most to them.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, and young adults in a variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, private practice, and the juvenile justice system. These experiences have helped me support clients working through anxiety, depression, peer and family relationships, self-esteem, emotional regulation, performance-related stress, and life transitions. I believe every person deserves an approach that meets them where they are, and I tailor our work together to their individual needs, strengths, and goals.

I enjoy incorporating creative and engaging approaches into therapy, including Play Therapy, Sand Tray, Expressive Arts, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Depending on your child’s or teen’s age and needs, therapy may look different from session to session, but my goal is always to create a space where they feel comfortable opening up, building trust, and developing skills they can use outside of therapy.

I’m passionate about helping young people and young adults develop healthy coping skills, build confidence, navigate challenges, and manage the pressures of everyday life without losing sight of the people, activities, and experiences that bring them joy. Whether your child is struggling to express what they’re feeling, your teen is navigating anxiety, relationships, school, or sports, or you’re a young adult trying to find your footing, I’m here to help.

If you’re a parent looking for support for your child or teen, or a young adult ready to make a change, I’d love the opportunity to work with you and help you feel more confident, capable, and hopeful.
